Before Swedish emigre artist GUSTAF TENGGREN created several of Golden Books' most popular characters, he worked for the Walt Disney Studio, painting concept artwork for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Old Mill, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi. J. P. MILLER worked alongside Tenggren at the Walt Disney Studio, and is largely credited for animating the characters Dopey, Geppetto, and Dumbo. He illustrated many Golden Books, including Little Bunny Follows His Nose and The Sweet Smell of Christmas. Hungarian emigre artist TIBOR GERGELY, who brought to life the beloved characters Tootle and Scuffy the Tugboat, was one of Golden Books' most prolific illustrators.
