Synopsis

Set in the late 18th century in London and Paris, against the violent upheaval of the French Revolution, A Tale of Two Cities tells the story of a French Doctor Manette, his 18-year imprisonment in Paris, his release, and a chance to start a new life in London with his daughter Lucie, and forget about the past. But he will soon discover that it is not easy to forget nor let go of the past.

The story is set against the conditions that led up to the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. It has a cast of characters ranging from common people to aristocrats and antiheroes, as well as political prisoners.

Through this brilliantly crafted book, Charles Dickens sheds light; on the themes of civil unrest and disobedience, imprisonment, injustice, social anarchy, romance, tragedy and hope. As Charles Dickens put it, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."
